No one understood the power of the coin for getting a political message across like the Ancient Greeks. In keeping with this tradition an American expat from Chicago, who now lives in Greece, prepared a fitting tribute to Barack Obama, immortalizing his nomination for U. S. The Baracko coin in the banner shows the bold, beautiful profile of Obama decked out in the lion headdress of the mighty Hercules. On the left, “backing” Obama, is the majestic Greek coin portraying Hercules in his renowned lion-skin cape that has come to symbolize courage, invulnerability, and winning against all odds.

Now, this legendary mantle passes on to Obama who is facing a lot of obstacles and challenges on his way to the White House. Indeed, he will need the skills, talents and invincibility of a Hercules to emerge as the undefeated champion who, like Hercules, is exceedingly successful at overcoming his opponents when they would least expect him to win.

The coin’s designer, Ann Martin-Papazoglou, has taken inspiration from the Greek myths and the stunning classical styles of Ancient Greek coins. Although the coin honors Obama’s nomination, it is also intended as a symbolic cultural outreach gesture from the Expats for Obama & Biden in Greece to all of you who support Obama at home and abroad.
